Dr. Derrick Greene, DMA

 Assistant Band Director, Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Percussion

Dr. Derrick Greene is an Assistant Professor of Music at Tennessee State University, where he leads the percussion studies program. He also serves as one of the assistant band directors for the Grammy Award-winning Aristocrat of Bands, overseeing the renowned drumline, "The Authority." Under Dr. Greene’s leadership, The Authority has earned national recognition with appearances at the Tournament of Roses Parade, performances for the Los Angeles Lakers, and the release of two albums. His dedication to education extends beyond the university as he has also served as a teaching artist with the National Museum of African American Music.

Throughout his career, Dr. Greene has presented clinics across the country and worked with numerous organizations, including Faith’s Place Center for Education, the Dallas Independent School District, and the Heartbeat Music and Performing Arts Academy. He has also contributed to the University of Memphis and participated in the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Through his YouTube channel, The Greene Beat, Dr. Greene provides educational percussion content and performance reference videos for students and professionals alike.

Beyond teaching, Dr. Greene is a freelance performer, clinician, audio engineer, and composer. He is the principal percussionist for the Nashville African American Wind Symphony and the drummer and technology director for the award-winning band, Brassville. He has performed at various prestigious events such as the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy and the National HBCU Band Directors Consortium. His recording credits include video game music for *Mafia 3* and contributions to the Grammy-winning album *The Urban Hymnal.*

Dr. Greene holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degree from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Music degree from Tennessee State University. He proudly endorses Ludwig Musser drums and percussion, Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth drumsticks, and Mike Balter mallets.
